Significant wedding anniversary can be celebrated in a Synagogue: one year, ten, twenty, thirty, fifty years of marriage
1. Our community is Orthodox: we follow the Sephardic minhag. There is no problem, however, about people of any minhag wishing to celebrate their anniversary in Venice, being recognized their Jewishness by a qualified orthodox Rabbi.
2. In Venice there are five Synagogues and they differ in terms of width. As a consequence the ceremony will take place in the Synagogue that is open at the moment of your choice. Concerning the use of the Synagogue, no particular rules are required, except the ones coming from the fact that they are Orthodox Synagogues.
3. Guests are allowed to attend the service, according to the bride and groom’s choice. During the regular services of Shabbath or during the days of the week, everybody is allowed to attend the ceremony.
4. The ceremony is performed in Hebrew.
5. According to the season the ceremony can be celebrated in summertime in the Spanish Schola Synagogue, and in winter in the Levantine Schola Synagogue. Both built in the late 1600s, both following Sephardic minhang.
6. The date of the ceremony should be fixed in agreement with our Rabbi.
7. It is a habit of ours to organize a Kabalat Panim for our guests in the Centro Comunitario (Community centre), few steps away from both Synagogues. The hall can hold 100 people, and as many the adjoining garden. In the hall a kasherut lunch can be prepared. Fees would vary depending on number of guests and the kind of food that should be arranged.
8. Concerning the use of the Synagogue, the fee includes: the solemn entry of the guests of honour, the choir singing the Barùk Ha-bà, a blessing song while the celebrated are covered by a Tallèth held by relatives and friends, the Rabbi’s blessing and the exit psalm, the cleaning of the Synagogue before and after the service, the security service at the entrance throughout the service, the use of the Community Centre Hall, mail and telephone of fax expenses, etc.
9. It is customary that the guests of honour organize a refreshment strictly Kashèr, at the Community centre, few steps from the Synagogues. In the Community Centre Hall, that can hold up to 100 people as well as the nearby garden, a kasherut lunch can be served. Fees vary on the number of guests and the kind of food required.
10. The request of this celebration should be accompanied by and/or the declaration of a Orthodox Rabbi conferming the jewish marriage. |
